Vail Lake SoCal Race #2

Vail Lake is one of my favorite places to race, so I was stoked coming into the weekend. On Friday we packed up, washed our bikes, and got all ready to head to Vail. When we got there we went straight to bed because it was late. In the morning we ate our breakfast and got ready to pre-ride. The course was very different from previous races at Vail, but I really liked it and it made me really exited to race. It rained all day Saturday, so the day mostly consisted of hanging out in the trailer. I went to bed early Saturday because I knew the time change would throw me off. Sunday morning went by so fast and before I knew it it was time to warm up! During the warm up I had some nerves, but I tried to focus on the goals I wanted for this race.

Unfortunately, I got last row for the start, but I kept positive and tried to think of the most effective way to get up front once the race started. Once the race started it was hard to pass before the first single track, but once the fire road climb came I moved in to eighth place. My legs felt good on the first lap and I tried to catch up to the girls I saw ahead of me. On the second lap I made my move and got into seventh place. Around the fire road climb I saw two girls about fifty feet in front of me, I tried to catch up but going into the single track my legs couldn't keep up. The third lap I didn't see anyone in front of me or behind me. I pushed myself to go faster when I wanted to slow down. As I came to the last single track climb right before the finish, I gave it every thing my legs had left and sprinted across the finish line.

I would say Vail was a successful race because I was closer to the girls in front of me than at Perris. Every race is a new learning experience for me, and I always feel more motivated and determined to do better each race. I am so proud of all my teammates and how well they did! Also Yucaipa got first place as a D1 team, so that was really exiting to see everyone's hard work pay off. I am hungry to get back on the starting line and improve, and to continue what I love to do!
